Langar Hall The Vale of Belvoir 28/09/2014

From Langar Hall, recent winner of the Best Rural Hotel, climbing to 4000 Ft we can see Peterborough on the horizon. Rutland Water, Leicester, Loughborough, Melton Mowbray and Belvoir Castle.  The runway at East Midlands Airport, Nottingham and the National Watersports Centre, with the Derbyshire Dales in the distance. Following the trent to Newark with Lincoln on the escarpement. Then down the A1 to Long Bennington and Grantham. Absolutely faboulous visibility! We fly over Barnstone, Moore Dyke by Whatton Manor Race Horse Stud and on to Elton Crossroads and  Orston home to Orston Gun Club. www.orston.com Keeping high to avoid upsetting the many horses and their owners at Orston, we clear the river Devon and land at Staunton in the Vale.

Ambergate The Hurt Arms 27/09/2014

Four Balloons flying out of the Hurt Arms this evening. The launch area was quite crowded! We all drift of towards the North of Mansfield, trying to avoid the town itself and stay in the open country side. Our seventh marriage proposal takes place in the basket this year. Thankfully they have all been accepted! Landing in a stubble field at Pleasley we are met by the farmer and his children, who have seen the balloon approaching and are keen to take a closer look.

Northerly winds this evening take us down towards Nether Heage and on to the world famous Denby Pottery  www.denby.co.uk  Then out towards Heanor to land at Cherry Tree farm Shipley.

Belton Woods Grantham 15/09/2014

Private flight tonight for the Hepworth family from Southwell. We have moved to Belton Woods Hotel and Golf complex for this evenings flight.   http://www.devere-hotels.co.uk/  We have easterly winds which from Langar Hall would take us straight towards East Midlands air space. Not recommended! We fly back into The Vale of Belvoir to land at Croxton Kerrial.

Ambergate The Hurt Arms. 11/09/2014

I have Ian Chadwick from the CAA on board tonight to supervise my annual check flight to revalidate my Commercial Pilots License. After an uneventfull (thankfully) flight over Carsington Water, we land at Kniveton. I passed!

Gentle flight this evening out towards the Race Horse Stud at Whatton Manor and Whittakers show jumping yard. Landing at Barnstone.

Daisy Made Ice Cream Skellingthorpe Lincoln 07/09/2014

We always arrive early at Daisy Made to relax and enjoy an Ice Cream fresh from the farms own cows milk. The Red Arrows are expected back at their base at Scampton this evening so we are all looking out for them.  Drifting south over Lincoln and  away from Scampton we see them arrive back. They do a big loop with coloured smoke and go in to land safely. We also land safely at Harmston.

Heading southeast towards Langar dropzone, I call them on the airband radio to find they have just made there last drop of the day. We can cross “height at our discression” Great. Flying up and over the Trent Valley escarpement at Stathern Wood we look to land only to see lots of partridge pens so carry on and land at Knipton by The Manners Arms.   www.mannersarms.com

The Hurt Arms Ambergate. 4/09/2014

Two balloons are flying out of the Hurt Arms this evening. The lower winds are taking us both towards Derby and East Midlands airspace so we climb and get a better direction to the south of Carsington Water , landing at Hulland.

Belton Woods Grantham 03/09/2014

Easterly wind today straight to East Midlands Airport from Langar Hall so moved to Belton Woods.Chatting to golfers as we drift over the three courses at Belton Woods.  http://www.deveregolf.co.uk/  on to Great Gonerby , Barrowby, Sedgebrook, Muston, to land at Granby. Just one mile from our intended launch site at Langar Hall.
