Daisy Made Ice Cream, Coffee Shop and Crazy Golf, Scarborough Farms, Lincoln Road Skellingthorpe
There is fun for all the family at Daisy Made Ice Cream and Coffee Shop, including children’s play area, friendly animals and Crazy Golf.
In a rush? Try the Express “Drive Thru” Lane, the first in Lincolnshire.
After a round of Crazy Golf on the 12 hole course you can retire to the well appointed Coffee Shop, for a tea or coffee and a welcome snack, and for dessert, another Ice Cream. Then stock up your freezer with take-home packs. Real Dairy Ice Cream, made on the farm with milk straight from daisy’s own cows. My own favourites are Niki’s Nectar and Lemon Meringue. Delicious… What a Great Day Out!
Lincoln, RAF Scampton and the Wold
Lincoln is a medieval city with cobbled streets, with the cathedral being one of the most exquisite churches in Europe. Its library has a school book from 1410 with the first recorded rhyme about Robin Hood, as well as one of only four surviving originals of the Magna Carta signed by King John. The central spire of the cathedral succeeded the Great Pyramids of Egypt as the tallest man-made structure in the world.
Lincoln Castle still has an operational Crown Court and the only Victorian “Pentonville Prison” chapel of its kind, coffin-like pews in the chapel, were to remind prisoners of their fate and to ensure that they could not see each other. Many prisoners were deported to Australia and others executed on the ramparts. During the summer months the Castle hosts medieval jousting and historical re-enactments. (www.castleexplorer.co.uk)
Flying out of Skellingthorpe you have a wonderful view of the City of Lincoln, The Cathedral, Castle, Brayford Pool, home to the original Iron Age settlement around the first century B.C., and Doddington Hall and Gardens. In the distance to the East, you will find the coast at Skegness. It’s “Oh So Bracing” and “Oh So Relaxing”.
RAF Scampton is home of the Red Arrows, and formerly, the Dambusters. We often get a free show from the team, as on their return from shows, they finish the day with aerobatics and smoke over the base before landing.
RAF Waddington is home to WWII bomber fleets and, subsequently, the magnificent Vulcan Bombers that roared into the skies en-route to the Falklands. RAF Waddington is the main base for the ‘triad’ of airborne intelligence systems. The Sentinel R1, E-3D Sentry and the Nimrod R1.
To the northeast is Lincolnshire Wolds, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and Market Rasen Races, with its National Hunt Race course. The river Trent boasts a number of Power Stations from Cottam to the Humber known locally as “Megawatt Valley”. Stunning scenery in every direction!
